- Some called the medieval times "The Dark Ages" due to the lack of information we have about these times.
- Christianity was legalized during the 4th century and it spread to western Europe, all the way to Ireland.
- One of the most powerful institutions was the Church, making laws and publishing books.
- Most of the art and architecture in medieval Europe was linked to the Christian church.
- Knights, soldiers, pilgrims, and peasants returning from marches through European trails brought back stories of other cultures and they started to embrace their architecture, tales, and advances in medicine.
- Trade was also very important but looked at as a "blessing and a curse" because it imported things all over the world.
- Although, trade also brought the Black Death, which was a disease that took out nearly a third of western Europe.
Daily Life
- Life for an average person was very routine and revolved around a agrarian calendar.
- Most time was spent working on land to grow food to eat throughout the year.
- Social activities were important and everyone was expected to attend.
- Fairs, merchants selling goods, games, and tournaments were ways that peasants spent their time.
- Weddings were celebrated by the whole town.
