Basic Information
- 1350-1550. Began in Italy and spread throughout Europe.
- The renaissance is one of the most disputed periods of time, as well as one of the most fascinating.
- Some say the renaissance was just the first 2 or 3 centuries leading to early modern Europe.
- Then there are people who say the renaissance did not even happen. Or that it just happened in specific places, not all together like how some would say about the Medieval times.
- The renaissance can be described as a time for the rebirth of learning, literature, and the arts.
- Also saw Ancient Rome and Greece come back through new works; classical antiquity.
- The renaissance was also a time for inventions and new ideas. As well as brilliant minds.
- There were many artists, philosophers, writers, mathematicians, and scientists. Also "Renaissance Men". For example; Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Shakespeare, Claudio Monteverdi, Henri VIII, Martin Luther, and many more.
- The Renaissance was a rebirth, especially since a lot of the population had died because of the Black Plague.
- There was also a rediscovery of the Roman and Greek cultures.
- The social classes were mainly made up of government, citizens, and poor people. Your class was identified by your wealth and power, as well as determine your availabilities.
- Poor people worked mainly on farms and did labor. They would live in very small homes and would only e able to afford a limited amount of food, clothing, and necessities.
- A citizen was anyone who was not a farmer. They had medium to large homes and managed expensive food and necessities. Citizens were able to travel and do many fun activities that poor people were not able to do.
- The government was made of rich citizens who lived in palaces, as well as churches, depending on the person. They also had expensive food and availabilities.
- Some of the most powerful and wealthiest people were the people working in churches and serving the churches.

- It centered in Catholic Europe and it set in structures and beliefs people had.
- Many reformers questioned the Catholic church and how they took care of things.
- Some reformers were; Martin Luther, John Calvin, and Henry VIII.
